Former Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman Endorses Alderman John Arena
Hoffman is newest addition to broad coalition supporting continued progress in 45th Ward

CHICAGO, Fri., April 3, 2015 – Former City of Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman today endorsed Alderman John Arena for re-election. Mr. Hoffman joins a wide array of community groups, labor groups, issue advocacy organizations, elected officials and prominent 45th Ward residents who agree that Alderman Arena’s leadership is needed to continue moving the Northwest Side in the right direction.

“Alderman Arena has been one of the leading voices for openness and transparency in city government, and as a city resident, I am thankful that we have John as a champion on these important issues,” said Mr. Hoffman. “He has consistently taken actions and made statements against corruption and unethical behavior, including his sponsorship of the Privatization Transparency and Accountability Ordinance. I hope John remains in the City Council, where I know we continue to fight for good, ethical government.”

With his endorsement of Ald. Arena, Mr. Hoffman joins a broad coalition of current and former elected officials, including Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Clerk David Orr and State Representative Will Guzzardi. Ald. Arena has also been endorsed by dozens of advocacy groups and labor groups, including United Working Families and the Chicago Federation of Labor.

In addition to earning endorsements from fellow elected officials and community groups, Ald. Arena has drawn support from dozens of prominent residents in neighborhoods throughout the Ward who have written letters on his behalf. One such letter-writer is former State Representative and Portage Park resident Mike Holewinski, who wrote to his neighbors: “From economic development to greater community participation to standing up for our neighborhoods in City Council, Alderman Arena has consistently shown that he can get the job done and keep us going in the right direction.”

“I’ve been working with the community, fellow public servants and neighborhood organizations throughout my first term to reverse 20 years of economic stagnation and unresponsive leadership the 45thWard suffered from under the previous Alderman,” said Arena. “We’ve turned our neighborhoods around by working together over the last four years, and we’ll continue to build on this momentum through Election Day so we can spend the next four years moving our neighborhoods forward.”

John Arena is the Alderman of the 45th Ward. He is running to be re-elected in the April 7 runoff election.
