CHICAGO — Butter burgers and cheese curds are closer than ever to the Six Corners Shopping District.

Ald. John Arena (45th) will join a ceremonial groundbreaking at 11 a.m. Thursday to usher in the construction of a Culver’srestaurant, signaling the next step in a $16 million redevelopment set to transform the 4900 block of West Irving Park Road, according to Arena’s staff.

Boosted by $2 million from the Portage Park Tax Increment Financing District, property owner Charles Cui set out last year to rehab the former Bank of America building at 4901 W. Irving Park Road. The plan called to fill the hulking gray building with a Retro Fitness gym, a Binny’s Beverage Depot and a 300-seat theater.

The gym celebrated its opening last month, and the liquor emporium is wrapping up construction with eyes on a ribbon-cutting by late July or early August, officials said.

Culver’s broke ground this spring on a location in Bronzeville, lining up the first Chicago outpost for the Wisconsin-based chain. The Portage Park restaurant, 4939 W. Irving Park Road, is set to open soon after, with a third promised for Wrigleyville.

Cui also scored a permit to renovate the storefront at 4925 W. Irving Park Road, where an Elly’s Pancake House is being planned.
