This week, I spoke before the Chicago Public Schools Board of Education on the need for a full-time nurse at Beard Elementary.

Beard serves disabled students, most of whom are on the autistic spectrum, and many of whom have ongoing medical issues that require monitoring. Every school should have a nurse, but if we are going to prioritize resources, schools that serve profoundly disabled students like Beard have the greatest need.

I look forward to working with CEO Barbra Bird Bennett, the school administration and parents on this effort until the students at Beard have the type of staff they deserve.
