Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle Endorses Alderman John Arena

 CHICAGO, Wed., Feb. 18, 2015 – Cook County Board President today endorsed 45th Ward Alderman John Arena for re-election. The popular leader and reformer noted Ald. Arena’s success improving the 45th Ward during his first term.

“Alderman Arena has been a strong and consistent ally in the fight to improve lives for working families on the Northwest Side,” said Pres. Preckwinkle. “I support his commitment to protect seniors’ benefits, strengthen public schools and be an ethical and transparent public servant.”

“I’m honored to have earned the support of such a well-respected and successful leader as President Preckwinkle,” said Ald. Arena. “I look forward to continuing to work with her and elected officials at all levels of government to improve our neighborhoods here in the 45thWard and tackle the issues facing the City of Chicago.”

Pres. Preckwinkle joins seven other elected officials in endorsing Ald. Arena for re-election: State Treasurer Mike Frerichs, Cook County Clerk David Orr, Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin, State Sen. John Mulroe, State Reps. Will Guzzardi and Rob Martwick, and former Ald. Bernie Hansen.

“John is a staunch voice for keeping the promises we’ve made to our seniors and retirees,” said State Rep. Guzzardi. “I look forward to working with him on legislation to protect the pensions and pay that 45th Ward residents and other Chicagoans worked hard to earn.”

“John Arena has been a responsive and hard-working alderman for the 45th Ward,” added State Rep. Martwick. “We have worked closely on many issues, and together we were able to obtain additional funding for road repairs in our neighborhoods. I know Alderman Arena will continue to do what’s best for the Ward and its residents.”

The Arena campaign continues to gain momentum as Election Day approaches. In addition to elected officials at the city, county and state level endorsing Ald. Arena, he was recently endorsed by both the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times, as well as 24 community, advocacy and labor groups.
